Susanna, Italy

The contradictions of the Erasmus project have never cut deeper than today, when the materiality of the space I inhabit seems suddenly so vital.
Not having even attempted to learn Danish in the seven months that I've lived here, I scrambled to locate official announcements. I relied on a telephone game of online translations to find out the specific ways in which my life would be disrupted.

My private, entitled mode of living became essentially political in the span of days. Realising my sudden dependence on the geography and politics of this place made the privilege of living temporarily and superficially ever more evident. While I used to be able to minimally acknowledge the specificity of the place I live in, I now see my inexorable interdependence with it. And I believe that in order to truly live internationally, we need to prioritise this sense of responsibility over individual enrichment.
