Marcelo, Brazil

When I decided to join Mundus programme, it was a big decision for my life plans. I use to live in Rio de Janeiro and to go often to the beach. I had a good job; not extraordinary in financial terms, but stable and privileged considering the reality of many Brazilians. I decided to resign to all this.
In Denmark, I made extraordinary new friends, which I wish I'll stay in contact with my whole life. When the lockdown was announced, I was at an "Open Mic" bar with one of them: Giorgia, the one in charge of this book (she is a great singer; check her Spotify page).

A few days after, some friends decided to go home, which I couldn't. Brazil is not near and cheap to reach. Moreover, I made my decision when I left: I was moving to Europe with study and job commitments. No step back. That was the real world: I was locked in, in a country with a completely different culture and an infectious disease outside. Some friends stayed.

Without noticing, I developed some strategies: I discovered how meditation is great for reducing anxiety and rising productivity; how checking the phone in the morning is toxic; and how my cooking abilities improved. I watched on-hold series, played the guitar more often and notice that I could walk around a bit with no harm. My mind was responding positively to less hurried days.
In the end, I realized that we can (and we must) learn from this situation. I'm sure we will get out of this stronger, wiser and, the most important, with greater self-knowledge.
